I’ve been a fan of Gary Will’s Waterloo Tech Digest for years.  During most of my time at Microsoft I’d look forward to the monthly update on Waterloo Region companies which he published.  Early in December, Gary quietly started a blog.  That rocks!

Gates visits Waterloo

Bill Gates paid a visit to the University of Waterloo yesterday.  He combined a recruiting trip for Microsoft with a pitch to undergrads on the value of software. 

The future will see software that performs voice and image recognition as well as automatic language translation. Software will also eventually act as a personal agent that determines a user’s location and availability, directing phone calls, e-mails and instant messages to a device, he said. “We’ll laugh at the days we had phone numbers and multiple e-mail addresses.”

Hmmm… clearly he’s been reading my business plan.

Microsoft Grant’s $10 Million to Canadian Universities

Microsoft’s grant has strings attached?. The company sets up a $10 million fund to support research and development at Canadian universities–with a required course in a Microsoft programming language.
