Vonage, SunRocket: Fish, or fillets?

February 3, 2007

Catfish are really tough.  Once, when I was a kid, I stayed at a friends cottage one weekend, and caught a good size catfish with a piece of bacon on a line.  We hauled it out of the lake, smacked it on the head with a hammer to kill it, slit it open, gutted it, [...]

The Vonage of TV?

October 11, 2006

BusinessWeek’s Olga Kharif has written a short article on Jeff Pulver’s latest effort: Network2.tv.  She leads off with the provocative question of whether this will be the “Vonage” of TV, and then makes this statement: Pulver believes that, in 2007, we’ll see the rise of a new TV network that will eventually compete with the [...]

Keating Cancels Vonage

September 27, 2006

Tom Keating has posted a transcript of his call cancelling Vonage — quite humorous, since the rep clearly doesn’t know who he is.  I had a similar experience cancelling both Vonage and Packet8 recently, and I still have two Bell Cellular accounts that I intended to cancel but ended up falling for one of their [...]

Telephia published the results of a VoIP telephone service survey yesterday.  The survey polled a sample of the 2.9 million US “pureplay” VoIP telephony households.  They did not measure PC based usage, like Skype, nor cable usage, but focused solely on service providers like Vonage, AT&T and Sunrocket.  While excluding Skype and other PC based systems is defensible, [...]

Vonage and Patents

July 11, 2006

Jon Arnold teased me yesterday, saying that he had a story he wanted to break on his blog later about patents and Vonage.  Over lunch, Howard and I were speculating what it might be.  I suggested that it was perhaps a license, in order to make the Verizon problem go away.  After all, if you [...]

Gralla: Bursting the VoIP Bubble

June 17, 2006

Preston Gralla savages the Vonage IPO and the Skype acquisition in this post titled Skype and Vonage: Can You Hear the VoIP Bubble Bursting?. It’s hard to disagree with his assessment. Vonage closed at $9.60 on Friday, down from the $17 opening price a few weeks ago. Skype unveiled a series of highly expected, but [...]

THUD: There Goes the Vonage IPO

May 24, 2006

CNet News.com reports that Vonage shares dipped 4% to $16.25 in trading this morning.  The reality is less pretty.  As this chart from Nasdaq shows, Vonage shares opened at $16.50, below the $17 they were initially priced at, and have continued to fall.  It looks as if there was a mass of trading at the [...]
