More on School Boards

And on the school boards:

  • Witmer orders school-board takeover. TORONTO — Education Minister Elizabeth Witmer sent supervisors to take over the Toronto and Hamilton school boards yesterday, as the latest Ipsos-Reid poll reported the Ontario government is winning early approval from voters for confronting trustees over spending.
  • 4.7MM cut from Ottawa schools.  The supervisor is going to work slashing special ed, forcing schools to share principals etc.  The shared principal idea is whacky.  If there isn’t enough work for one principal at one school, then amalgamate schools.
  • And Randall Denley on why Teacher raises won’t solve the problems.

Opposition leader Dalton McGuinty (McGuinty urges government to put kids first) is [...]

Education in Decline in Ontario

August 6, 2002

The state of education in Ontario, right now, is tragic.  School boards are being forced to balance budgets by the government, under the terms of the Ontario Education Act.  As a result programs, like special education and bussing are on the block.  Basics are going away as well — at my oldest son’s middle school this past [...]
