From the Trenches

October 3, 2006

In Rebtel, Jajag and others should know what they are up against, Russell Shaw writes that “startups who are so wrapped up in their own special offerings should not underestimate the forces they are going up against”.  Russell is riffing off Andy’s Being on the Inside where Andy’s basic point is that the incumbents can make [...]

VON Day 2: Pulver Keynote

September 12, 2006

Jeff has started by welcoming all of the delegates from both the voice community, and the new delegates from the video community. He has started by talking about a little history.  Voice is an application, he says, but we’ve known that for 10 years. We get a little history vis a vis the VON coalition, and [...]

A Call to Arms For the US VoIP Industry

July 2, 2006

I don’t ordinarily make a practice of commenting on what’s going on at the FCC.  American politicians don’t pay much attention to commentary from foreigners.  However, if you are a US based VoIP provider, then you need to pay attention to what happened last week at the FCC.  The impact is huge, as VoIP providers are [...]

Live from Las Vegas

January 4, 2006

After a hellish travel day yesterday (United’s global computer systems were out for three hours, stranding passengers everywhere), I’m now live in Las Vegas.  Connectivity at the Sands Expos is sketchy, and expensive ($40 for 4 hours).  Hence, while I intend to blog as much of the Pulver Consumer VoIP summit as I can, it [...]

Skype Voice Services: First Done by Pulver

September 8, 2005

Here is an interesting press release: Freeworld Dialup and Voxeo Announce Innovative Developer Solutions for SIP.  Apparently Voxeo and Tellme did deals with Pulver’s Freeworld Dialup in 2003 that are just like the Skype deal they’ve done.  As usual, Jeff is ahead of the pack.

Visiting Pulver in NY

September 1, 2005

It’s  a gorgeous day in Melville NY.  Howard and I have travelled to the mecca of VoIP, pulver.com.  In addition to being the most well known VoIP guru on the planet, Jeff also has great taste in toys. We got a demo of Aibo this morning. As cute (and badly behaved) as a real puppy.
