iotum does Group Calls

by alec on September 12, 2007

One of the features we built into our Facebook application was the ability to host a public call.  Think Talk Radio… get on the line and chat with a bunch of people about an area of interest.

Julien, the Marketing "Energizer" at iotum is especially gung-ho on this feature… and hockey, especially the Ottawa Senators.  If you're a sports fan and want to talk about training camps, what the prospects are like, who's going to make the team, etc… well, join Julien and his pals on the line this Friday for an hour of fun and chat.

To join the call, add the iotum FREE Conference Call application to your Facebook profile, and then RSVP to the NHL Training Camps call on Friday at 2:30 eastern time.

Hockey loving geeks everywhere will rejoice at this announcement

NEW YORK – The National Hockey League (NHL) will offer free hockey programming to consumers on the Joost distribution platform beginning at the start of the 2007 Stanley Cup Final.   The announcement was made today by Joost™, the world’s first broadcast-quality Internet television service.

If only Joost wasn't such a poor experience on my PC.  It really doesn't play well with Windows Vista, it seems.

Balsillie Buys the Penguins!

October 4, 2006

Blockbuster news!  While watching the season opener, Ottawa Sens vs Toronto Maple Leafs, TSN announces that RIM founder Jim Balsillie is the new owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Wow!  Speculation: will he keep the team in Pittsburgh, or are they coming to Southern Ontario (Hamilton, or Kitchener?).  And can Southern Ontario support a third NHL [...]

Hanging Up The Car Flag

May 14, 2006

Well, that’s it.  The game last night was a nailbiter, but in the end the Sabres knocked the Sens out.  The most frustrating thing?  The Sabres goals looked like the same kinds of goals the Sens were scoring at the beginning of the season, but apparently have forgotten how to now. Tallinder’s opening goal at [...]

Game 2: Sabres 2, Sens 1

May 8, 2006

That was a heartbreaker.  There was no score in the first, and third, but Buffalo went up 2 to 1 in the second.  Ryan Miller took an amazing 44 shots, letting just one in.  Ray Emery had a comparatively easier time of it, with just 17 shots on goal.  The Sens played hard tonight, but [...]

The Bandwagon Line Forms to the Right

May 7, 2006

I think it’s tough to be a Maple Leafs, or a Habs fan at the moment, and be out of the playoffs. Increasingly, they’re joining the Sens bandwagon.  After all, what are you going to do?  Quit watching hockey for the rest of the season?  Nah! This week one of our developers, Noam, finally broke down and got some Sens-wear.  And, [...]

BarCamp Mixer Ends with Sens Victory Over Lightning

April 21, 2006

Barcamp Ottawa kicked off this evening with a small mixer at the Fox and Feather on Elgin street.  It was great to see so many friends, and meet new people.  Bryce shot some photos, which I’ve uploaded to this flickr set, and tagged BarCampOttawa.  This is a particular representative shot showing me, David Crowe with [...]

Jim’s Visit

February 1, 2006

iotum had a visit from our good friend Jim Courtney on Monday.  He gave us a demo of a very interesting Voice 2.0 application (sworn to secrecy at this point) that he and some friends are working on in the medical field.  He also snapped some photos of the iotum offices, which you can find [...]

Kanata’s Newest “Cash Machine”

January 11, 2006

The Ottawa Citizen reports this morning that the Senators have done a new deal for the naming rights on the Corel Centre.  The Senators will now play at "Scotiabank Place".  I’m happy for Corel that they’ve unloaded this dinosaur.   In 2000 I told then Corel CEO Derek Burney that he ought to sell the rights [...]

Teamwork and Leadership

December 31, 2005

We went to the Ottawa Senators vs  the NY Islanders last night at the Corel Center.  The Senators came back from being down 3-1 to win the game 4-3.  It was a remarkable display of teamwork, made all the more so by team Captain Daniel Alfredsson.  In the middle of the second period he took [...]
