From Light Reading: Cable Cadre Talks VOIP (Light Reading). This, of course, is massive news.  Cable networks, coast to coast, in a cooperative VoIP network.  It’s the moral, if not technical, equivalent of the old regional bells model, with Neustar in the role that AT&T held. Plus ça change, plus cest la mème.

Net2Phone 2 Franchise

Interesting.  I wonder how many cableco’s will fork over 90% of voice revenues to Net2Phone. VoIP firm Net2Phone starts franchise effort. The Net-phoning company says it has raised $63 million to bankroll a franchise program designed to make it easy for cable service providers to offer voice over Internet Protocol plans.

FCC: Every TV Must Have a Digital Tuner

The F.C.C. Has Voted: A Digital Tuner for Every TV. The television industry, and the television manufacturers are complaining that this will add $250 or more to the cost of a set.  I guess I just don’t believe it.  Short term it might be expensive, but short term digital satellite receivers were expensive as well.  [...]
