BarCamp Radio 1: Converged Billing

by alec on April 18, 2008

I’m going to judge BarCamp Radio 1 a success.  This morning’s session on Converged Billing, ably led by BT’s Jonathan Jensen, was enjoyable, informative, and very very interactive. Frankly, I had no idea that billing could be such an engaging topic.  As Jonathan pointed out, the bill is the single largest touch point that any carrier has with their customers.  Networks fail rarely, but customers receive a bill every month.  Focusing on the design of the bill, and the customer reaction to the bill, is an area which potentially could pay huge dividends.

Listen to the call.  Especially note some of the ways that BT is changing their billing in order to increase customer satisfaction.

SquawkBox becomes BarCampRadio today

by alec on April 18, 2008

This morning we’re going to try a little different format, which I’ve named BarCamp Radio. BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering — an unconference — born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. BarCamp’s, however, happen infrequently. Barcamp radio is an experiment to try to bring the enthusiasm and intensity of BarCamp to a virtual medium – a conference call. It’s a BarCamp poetry slam… BarCamp without the need to get a venue, sponsors, or volunteers and organized in neat digestible 30 minute chunks once a week.

Today, BT’s Jonathan Jensen has offered to lead a session on converged billing. I hope to see everyone at the show.

Barcamp Radio this Friday

April 16, 2008

I’m working on a new concept for the SquawkBox on Friday, modeled on BarCamp.  The idea is pretty simple — we’ll hold a couple of BarCamp sessions (dubbed BarCamp Radio) in place of the regular SquawkBox.  Like BarCamp, the only real rule is that there are no rules.  Attendees need to lead a session, suggest [...]

DemoCamp 12: Slam Poetry for Geeks

February 6, 2007

DemoCamp is coooool.  It’s slam poetry for geeks.  10 minutes to show your product, no props, no powerpoint… just you and the product.  At the end, questions and critique from your peers. Yee ha!  I think I like it even better than the original BarCamp format. At DemoCamp 12 in Toronto last night, there were [...]

Beyond Where: Kakiloc at Barcamp Ottawa

December 2, 2006

Kakiloc marries social networks and location based services.  Via handsets and via a web portal, it allows you to broadcast your location, and find the locations of your closest friends.  It’s jammed full of features like reminders, and rules that allow you to specify things like “When my girlfriend is within one kilometer, let me [...]

Rick and Shel’s Excellent Adventure

May 19, 2006

Rick Segal is doing a three week road trip this summer with Shel Israel.  They’re networking with entrepreneurs everywhere, and Rick’s side agenda is to promote Canada as a great place to set up shop, as opposed to Silicon Valley.  I agree, to a certain extent, but part of what makes Silicon Valley special is the [...]
