I run my business on my cell phone. Voicemail destroys that illusion and sounds really unprofessional. Found this company at RingAlice.com that kills your voicemail, replacing it with a person who takes your unanswered calls. Really revolutionary, has that personal human touch, and sounds very sophisticated for $30.

In my former position I was a development manager of an enterprise class voice mail system. All of our development was centered around enabling users to get their voice mails in an alternate format such as unified messaging or SMS.

So when I hear the question, "Is voicemail dead?" I have to respond with the affirmative.

Point in fact one of our largest customers was actively getting us to add features to the product to prevent the receipt of voice mails. We were doing this based on alternate call routing so that in 90% of the cases the call was answered by a real person.
