This is a replay of OS/2 versus Windows, Mark. Apple has built a proprietary platform around Intel components (anybody remember the PS2 bus, for instance, that only IBM sold, and that only OS/2 knew how to talk to?). They're selling a premium OS for that platform, and, with Parallels, claiming it's a better Windows than Windows. Nobody wrote OS/2 apps, and the cost of building hardware for the PS2 platform only was too high. So it failed.

I'm not saying Apple will fail, but so far this particular strategy isn't one that has managed to unseat Microsoft.

And you know what, I'll bet Blodget writes his columns using Microsoft Word.

You have to remember that Blodget is a master of self-promotion. He likes to live on the edge because that's what attracts the most attention - and business. But he's also a smart guy so If you pushed back and suggested he's wrong about Windows, he's probably got a pretty good analytical argument prepared. Personally, I like the New Blodget because he's willing to push himself out there.

Good point that everything that Blodget says or writes is tainted forever by his unconscionable conduct over the past few years. People who have been this wrong before simply do not deserve the benefit of being listened to again.
