Pat Phelan’s AllFreeCalls has now launched in Ireland. Another call arbitrage service, AllFreeCalls.ie lets Irish residents make a local call, and then enter the number of the place they wish to call. It’s a two stage calling system, financed by termination revenues from the local telco.
Some time back, Pat and I chatted. Our two companies are an interesting contrast in the VoIP market. My own interest is in what the telephone can become in the future. Pat’s interest is in spreading inexpensive telephone service to every person, regardless of their means. The technology of VoIP is simultaneously a price disruptor, and a service enabler. It’s not everyday that that combination shows up in the market.
Good on you Pat, and congratulations on your launch!
