Bankruptcy as a badge of honor

January 28, 2007

GigaOm’s Robert Young points to a couple of articles about the acceptance of failure and bankruptcy in the US psyche, and how the “opportunity to fail” fosters an environment of entrepreneurship.  Too true.  The US is a fascinating contrast compared to other countries the world over.  That ability to boldly accept risk is perhaps unique. There have been [...]

Presenting the "bump-top"

January 27, 2007

If you have an interest in human factors — man machine interfaces, GUI’s and that sort of thing — then this video is well worth a view. The “bump-top” is a physics-enabled pen desktop, built around the metaphor of piles of documents. Like the Apple iPhone, the bump-top has springy components, with the notion of [...]

StreamCast complaint thrown out

January 25, 2007

One of the more lurid stories of the VoIP business has come to a close, as U.S. District Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper has dismissed the $4.1 billion antitrust lawsuit filed by StreamCast Networks against VoIP service provider Skype, eBay and more than a dozen defendants.  It certainly made for great reading with allegations of racketeering, antitrust [...]

Evil 2.0: Cool and Charismatic

January 24, 2007

Phil Bogle takes a swipe at the Apple iPhone lock-in model.  I can’t say that I disagree.  In a world where we’re rapidly moving away from proprietary solutions, the iPhone is an anachronism.

Adobe's Peer to Peer Tentacles

January 24, 2007

Om Malik has been digging through the entrails of LinkedIn, looking for insights into Adobe’s peer to peer efforts.  You may already be aware of their voice amibitions, but now those ambitions appear to be extending beyond voice and into all things P2P. Adobe is keeping mum about it, but as I have noted in the past, [...]
