Presenting the "bump-top"

by alec on January 27, 2007

If you have an interest in human factors — man machine interfaces, GUI’s and that sort of thing — then this video is well worth a view. The “bump-top” is a physics-enabled pen desktop, built around the metaphor of piles of documents. Like the Apple iPhone, the bump-top has springy components, with the notion of momentum and friction built in.

It’s an impressive piece of demo-ware. I wonder how well it would stand up to real world use. Is the use of a pile fundamentally different from that of a folder? Would there be utility in reordering stacks of documents on my PC desktop so that different elements stick out?

Worth a look.
