Windows Vista Signature Edition: Something old…

by alec on January 21, 2007

Remember that old wedding rhyme… “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”?  Well, it turns out that Windows launches are lot like weddings, or so it would seem.

In this case, the Windows Vista Signature Edition (numbered and signed by Bill Gates!) that Engadget is reporting on is the “something old”.  Here’s a photograph of the Windows 95 Special Edition. I snapped it a couple of minutes ago.  There are two of them sitting on my shelf here at home.

I seriously doubt that Bill Gates would sign 20,000 copies of Vista. It’s pretty much guaranteed to be a print…nice, but no thanks. I’ll get Vista thru my MSDN subscription or through the MSDN Academic Alliance.

Me too, Jason. I think he’d be pretty sore by the end of it.

I have # 05485|25000 The signature is Silver Embossed.. and recessed a bit in the box. There is one other signature in the box and on the back of the case inside the neat black cardboard slip cover there is a memo from BIll Gates..

It reads:

I've always been inspired by the limitless potential of technology. And I belive that its definition i snever fixed, but instead is an ongoing collaboration among technical professionals and enthusiasts– a group of people who are inspired by the challenge of testing the limits of technology. redifining its boundaries, and setting new standards for innovation and progress. At Microsoft, we feel very fortunate to be a part of this effort. And so, as thanks, we hope you will enjoy this Signature Edition of Windows Vista Ultimate. It represents both our best work and our vision of what the future might hold.

Bill Gates (Signed again by printer)
