I’ve crossed a milestone of sorts. Yesterday afternoon, I noticed that Akismet was reporting 99,500 (approximately) spam comments trapped since I installed it on May 18th of this year. And this morning that number stands at 100,508. Sometime during the night we crossed the 100K threshhold. That’s an average of 465 spam comments per day, since installing Akismet, and it’s an increasing number. In the last day, alone, there have been over 1,000 attempts by spammers.
By comparison, since inception — August 5, 2002 – I’ve written 2,746 posts, and received 2,775 comments. That’s an average of 1.7 posts and/or comments per day.
465 spam comments per day versus 1.7 posts. That’s an astounding 275 comment spam attempts for every posting.
Thank you to the Akismet team.Â

Hi Alec, Mum and I were receiving hideous amounts of spam recently. I don’t know how it is done, but I report all spam to my service provider, Shaw, and over a period of about two months it has been reduced to almost nothing. You might like to contact them. In addition, I think using a Mac helps. Dad
