Earthlink's WiFi Dreams

by alec on July 6, 2006

Katie Fehrenbacher has wasted no time since starting with GigaOm yesterday.  This morning she has a scoop on Earthlink’s WiFi Phone plans.  Earthlink will sell voice plans on WiFi by the end of the year, and WiFi only phones. According to Katie’s story, the phones work well at speeds up to about 40 miles per hour.  Perfect for municipal settings. The kicker? $10 to $25 per month.

It seems like a perfect application for Nokia’s N91, or E61 dual mode phones.  Both of these come with built-in SIP clients.

Welcome to GigaOm Katie!

Hi,
Interesting post. I have the Nokia E61 and the E70 and like them both. I have been so busy with all the other features of the devices that I haven't had time to use the native SIP applications. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity.

I've been trying the WiFi on the N91 out, Ed. Haven't got the SIP client configured correctly, yet, but it seems like a great option for my office.
