When did these start running? Over the weekend I spotted a whole crop of Skype advertising in my Google Adsense. I had never seen Skype advertisements before.Â
It’s a fascinating development, given that Skype has traditionally avoided advertising. Is this an experiment, or the future? At 100 million subscribers, perhaps word-of-mouth and viral marketing has run it’s course.

Given this and free, unlimited national calling for American and Canadian subscribers, it looks like the cost of acquisition is not zero anymore. Probably we have to revisit some of the recent analysis comparing Skype’s business in relation to Vonage’s. Worse, it sure looks like the revolutionary is after all a reactionary in the sense POTS is still the pull.
Very true, Aswath! VERY.
Yes, and that's one of the beauties of Adsense. There are few advertising media as testable.
It never hurts to try new things. This might be just a Skype marketing experiment, which would obvious float to the top of VOIP blogs, like this one.
Hey Alec, you know if there's a way for us to advertise on SKYPE? I've herad that we can actually do that.
Excuse me ALEC… could you please tell me how to do the advertisement in SKYPE. I read this just now, kinda interested! I just dont know how to do it. Or otherwise if you could provide me the information regarding this.
thanks.
Dennis, I don't think there is a way to advertise in Skype. Not that I've heard of. These ads are being done by Skype in Google searches.
