I think the ideas in the MP-900 were not bad, Aswath. However, as you point out, binding it to the PC was fatal. In those days, people turned PCs off. And, on the Win9x platform, software wasn't always stable.

I do not know why MP-900 failed - it could have been ahead of its time. But when it came out I felt that it should have done a couple of things differently. The main thing being that it depended on the screen of the PC and not the handset.

The important thing to note is that it attempted to add "intelligence" at the end. Noticing that most of the current ATAs don't try to do some of those things is a bad reflection on them. (If you Google, many of the contempraneous reviews talk about leaving the computer on all the time; nobody today complains about leaving ATA on all the time.)

Also, if the product had survived for a bit long, I am sure you would have made it "relevant" soon enough and that too at the end-point itself! :-)
