OpenZoep

by alec on January 25, 2006

OpenZoep launched yesterday.  Zoep is a Dutch group which has built an open source client side call platform.  I had a chance to chat with Willem-Jan Schutte, one of their directors, yesterday.  He showed me a browser based softphone they’ve built with their platform that runs as a FireFox extension.  These guys really get Voice 2.0.  They’ve put their platform into the wild, and will find ways to monetize the apps built from operating the network.

A double-decade veteran of product management and marketing, he spent nine years at Microsoft where he helped launch Windows 95, the first two versions of Internet Explorer, the Universal Plug and Play initiative, the push into home markets, opt-in email marketing and what might well go down in history as the very first direct email list ever.
