October 2005

Thank you!

October 28, 2005

It was completely unexpected, but I’ve been nominated, not once, but twice, for the 2005 Canadian Blog Awards award for Best Business Blog.  Thank you Randy and Ian.

ITEXPO: Anoop Gupta

October 27, 2005

It sucks to be Anoop.  The room is probably set up for 400 and there are probably no more than 50 people here, despite the fact that it’s 15 minutes late starting. The talk is titled "Real-Time Internet and the Future of the Information Work".  The theme of the talk is about productivity and the [...]

LA Culture

October 27, 2005

It’s the last day of ITEXPO.  The show is over today at 3:00, but we don’t leave until tomorrow morning.  Howard suggested we could do something cultural this evening: "Maybe take in the Getty Museum, or Steven Spielberg’s new Museum of Tolerance.  Or… maybe Fry’s."

David Beckemeyer Rants

October 26, 2005

Beckemeyer is ticked about the $25 wifi fee at the LA Convention Center.  AMEN.  I would add that the fact that it’s throttled at 64K adds insult to injury.

ITEXPO: Carly Fiorina

October 25, 2005

I’m sitting in Carly Fiorina’s keynote at ITEXPO.  She’s speaking without slides, and she’s doing a great job of it.  Her theme at this point is that industries are merging and that customers are in charge.  It used to be that the regulator existed to protect customers from the service providers, but not anymore. If [...]

ITEXPO: Brad Garlinghouse

October 24, 2005

I’m at the Internet Telephony Expo, and listening to Brad Garlinghouse of Yahoo give his keynote.  I really wanted to hear this speech, because I missed him at VON. The session is sparsely attended.  I hope that’s not a harbinger for the rest of the show. He begins by talking about two "pink elephants" – [...]
