Jerome’s Keywords

by alec on September 8, 2005

I’ve been using a superb WordPress plug-in called Jerome’s Keywords. What does it do?

  1. Makes it easy for me to tag every post I make.
  2. Sends those tags to Technorati so I get indexed properly there.
  3. Inserts those same tags into the header of every page using the META KEYWORD tag.  Every page on my site is automatically keyworded correctly.
  4. Allows me to create a super-cool Technorati style heatmap of what I post about most frequently.

Awesome job Jerome!

Bill Campbell over on Skype Journal is very critical of the Skype Voice Services business model.  It’s a consequence of not owning your own platform and API, as I said earlier today.  Everyone has to get paid!  Now, having said that, giving up 70% of your revenue to the distribution channel, in exchange for the weak promotional benefits offered, seems rich. Compared to packaged software distribution where there is an actual cost to warehousing and carrying credit, it’s very rich.

Skype Voice Services: First Done by Pulver

September 8, 2005

Here is an interesting press release: Freeworld Dialup and Voxeo Announce Innovative Developer Solutions for SIP.  Apparently Voxeo and Tellme did deals with Pulver’s Freeworld Dialup in 2003 that are just like the Skype deal they’ve done.  As usual, Jeff is ahead of the pack.

EBay and Skype

September 8, 2005

The EBay/Skype story is really getting legs.  News.COM is covering it, including the masterful understatement that "the deal would represent a dramatic shift in strategy for the world’s largest online auction site."  Erik Lagerway (www.sipthat.com) also wrote a short piece, with the comment that "If Skype would only just integrate SIP, we could all play." [...]

Galitzine Asks “Does EBay Want to be a Phone Company?”

September 8, 2005

Greg Galitzine is scratching his head over the EBay / Skype rumours as well.  Like me, he can’t understand why this makes sense. While I understand the desire for even a leading company to maintain growth and identify new sources of revenue, but I don’t quite get the marriage of EBay and Skype. One of [...]

Abramson on Skype Voice Services

September 8, 2005

Andy’s point of view is interesting.  He’s looking at how the Skype announcement affects content providers –> radio, media companies like Disney, and so on, as opposed to their platform strategy.  Certainly with 160 million downloads, and a regular audience of more than 30 million users, Skype has just become one of the larger media [...]

EBay to Acquire Skype?

September 8, 2005

The Wall Street Journal apparently (I can’t see the article – it’s behind their firewall) reported this morning that EBay and Skype are in merger talks.  Skype has declined to comment.  I guess I must be stupid, because I don’t see the strategic value to either party. UPDATE: Andy Abramson points out that there is a [...]
