There you have it.  December 26th I sent mail to Stephen Harper and Peter McKay.  Today, I got a very nice automated response from Stephen Harper (attached).  Mr. Harper, I think you need to have a chat with your staff about modernizing your approach.

  • 10 days is a long time to wait for a computer generated response.  If you’re going to send automated responses (which I don’t have any objection to, by the way), try to make it more timely.
  • More importantly, your reply requested that I include a “mailing address” with my original mail, in case I am interested in receiving a reply. Of course I’m interested in hearing from you.  However,  for the better part of a decade, now, I haven’t used postal mail.  I don’t care if it’s free to send postal mail to MPs — I don’t use it, and I don’t want MPs to spend my tax dollars on printed paper, ink, and postage (even if it is “free”) to reply to me using Canada Post when bits and bytes will do the job just as well.  Please consider the email address on my email message my “mailing address”.

Thanks.
