PC World and VoIP

November 19, 2004

PC World has a new VoIP resource center.  Unfortunately, devoid of content.  At this point it’s a collection of the latest press releases, and a few recycled downloads (utilities that make your modem lights show up on your PC desktop, and the like).

Carolyn Parrish: It’s about time

November 18, 2004

Paul Martin has booted Carolyn Parrish out of the Liberal Caucus.  It’s about time.  CBC’s Ottawa Morning asked people to phone their talkback line this morning with their opinions on Ms. Parrish.  I said: "Carolyn Parrish is a national embarrassment.  Obviously we can’t un-elect her.  To those who argue that kicking her out of caucus gives [...]

Peanut Butter Heaven

November 16, 2004

Just munching on a toasted Montreal bagel slathered in Adams All Natural Peanut Butter. Adams is made from peanuts and sea salt.   It’s about as close to heaven on earth as you can get, I figure.  "Just say no" to Jiff.

Longhorn requirements

November 11, 2004

A couple of days ago I went looking for Longhorn system requirements.  What sort of system is going to be best for Longhorn users, and should we be designing with Longhorn in mind, or not, at this point?  I didn’t turn up a lot, but this article at Microsoft-Watch caused raised eyebrows.  In it, Mary-Jo [...]

Cablelabs RFI for Integrated DOCSIS Access Device

November 11, 2004

Big news.  CableLabs wants to produce a standard IAD based on DOCSIS for cable subscribers.  Success would mean the production of a standard piece of equipment that could be used for voice access on any cable system conforming to DOCSIS.

Empowered hiring processes

November 11, 2004

I’ve written about my personal views on hiring in the past, especially the old maxim "Hire the best, not just the candidate that’s available when you need them."  Recently, those points-of-view have been tested. The empowered hiring process I’ve advocated so strongly won. Iotum’s hiring process is as much a copy of the processes I [...]
