Instant messaging – an infrastructure component
AOL has released their annual survey on IM usage, and stated that the most important feature was photo sharing, to which Randy asks “Is this about IM or photo sharing”? IM is an infrastructure component, in my opinion. It’s a directory of who you can communicate with in real time, whether that communication is voice, video, text, or shared files of some kind or another. The value of IM is immediacy, pure and simple. Photo’s, text, links… it doesn’t matter to me.
