Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico

Drinking a bottle of Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico, year 2000.  The Manotick LCBO has mountains of this wine in their Vintages corner, priced at a very reasonable C$15.95.  The bottle has been open for about 30 minutes now.  It has a fruity nose now, but was a little alcoholic smelling at first. Nice fruit flavours as well, with a bit of a spicy hotness to it, due to the alcohol. The wine is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, and 5% Canaiolo. Difficult to smell the classic “cherries and violets” of Sangiovese, but there’s a definite bitter cherry taste to the wine.  At the price, I think it’s good value and will probably buy a few more to see how it ages…
