Landover Baptist Church

by alec on December 30, 2002

Landover Baptist Church is one of the most biting pieces of satire on fundamentalist Christianity that I have ever seen.  Check out some of these pieces…

There’s also a store with such choice items as the

  • "Unsaved" t-shirt for you to give to all your favorite unbelievers.
  • "What would Jesus Do?" thong, with the description beginning "No Christian lady should be without this product. Offering pure protection from pesky penises!"

Someone put a lot of work into this site.  I’d imagine that humour impaired folks everywhere will find it fairly offensive.

This sight has a forum section but they dont seem to allow everyone to participate. I tried to use it and it simply said you do not have permission to use this page. and gave some lame reasons. They seem to be as intolerable as the jerks they claim to parody.

Not true Dave!
Sign up, be respectful and most of all be funny.
You seem to have the ability (shown here) to sign up.
Might want to work on the other two.

Anyone who interjects themselves on the American political scene is fair game for parody. It's called freedom.

a friend emailed me a site called godhatesgoths.com, while looking into it i came accross the landover baptist site. if you only look at the front of the sites and what is being said, one can become aggressive vary fast. But the man behind it is extreamly smart and witty. you also have to take what is being said behind the parody. I think that is what this man is trying to do.

I dunno. I got registered for the forum and I think they are deadly serious. If this is a parody, it's a parody of a parody. What ever the case the forums are strictly controlled and any statement/post questioning the nature of the web site is immediately deleted. Either way, real or parody, they are pretty sick,

No, they are pure satire (they say so here: http://www.landoverbaptist.org/tos.html).

Great site. And the fact that meny people don't know it's satire is part of the satire.

Agreed with Wes, amazing site. So good that when you first stumble into it, especially if via one of the Forums, you have to think "WTF?! Are these people really serious?!!".

But when you finally "get it", you realize it's very clever and truly inspired. Besides, wicked humor is the perfect way to deal with the sort of insanity that they parody so exquisitely…. enough that they've apparently pissed off alot of real religious groups!
