Canada’s Economy Roars

by alec on August 31, 2002

Soaring economy trumps U.S.. — Canada’s economy blasted through the second quarter at a rate four times faster than its U.S. counterpart, as Canadian companies and consumers both contributed to increased spending. The country’s gross domestic product, the measurement of all goods and services produced, powered ahead at a 4.3-per-cent annual rate in April, May and June, continuing Canada’s surprisingly strong showing against the United States.

The headline is misleading.  Later in the story it tells the truth, which was that April was great, but May and June slowed to a crawl.

The National Post has a slightly different take — it’s all about consumer confidence, in their opinon. Americans lack Canadians’ confidence.
