FCC: Every TV Must Have a Digital Tuner

by alec on August 9, 2002

The F.C.C. Has Voted: A Digital Tuner for Every TV.

The television industry, and the television manufacturers are complaining that this will add $250 or more to the cost of a set.  I guess I just don’t believe it.  Short term it might be expensive, but short term digital satellite receivers were expensive as well.  We’re now on the third or fourth generation of those products, and the satellite industry is doing just fine, thank you very much!

Digital TV is excellent, whether it’s cable or satellite.  The broadcasters should get aboard, or they will be obsoleted by other delivery mechanisms.
